ACI Global’s 25th Anniversary with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI): Do It Once, Do It Right!

Ian Erskine — Managing Director & CEO, ACI Global & e-Quip

ACI Global celebrates 25 Years with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability, and the Human Intelligence Behind Continuous Improvement

What does it really take for an organisation to live by its values, rather than simply report them?

Ian Erskine, the Managing Director and CEO of ACI Global and e-Quip, catches up with Myles in his 98th Xraised episode to mark a significant milestone: 25 years of ACI Global’s connection with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Looking back on that journey, Ian reflects on how sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and responsible business have evolved, and why organisations need to stay true to their own principles rather than simply follow a framework.

At the heart of the conversation is a philosophy Ian has returned to throughout his work: “do it once, do it right.” He explores the difference between reporting what an organisation does and actually living those principles through its strategy, processes, culture and everyday decisions. The discussion also looks at the role of ISO 26000 as guidance for Corporate Social Responsibility, and how quality and ethics can become part of an organisation’s culture rather than simply another requirement to address.

The conversation then turns to the people behind every process and policy. He explains why capability is about more than knowledge and expertise. It also involves listening, sharing ideas, challenging assumptions, and making sure people have the support and wellbeing needed to do their work properly. For Ian, meaningful improvement happens when people are allowed to contribute their intelligence and ideas.

As the discussion looks towards the future, Ian addresses one of the biggest issues facing organisations today: artificial intelligence. Rather than seeing AI simply as a replacement for human capability, he challenges us to think about the value of our own analytical intelligence (cognitive, emotional and strategic) and the role people continue to play in leading organisations responsibly.

This episode comes back to a simple but powerful message: sustained success is not just about what an organisation reports. It is about what its people believe, how they act, how they learn, and whether they continue doing things the right way.
